R D Supekar book mistakes – a discussion to alert the students

R D Supekar Book of electronics has number of mistakes…

ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION!

If you do the preparation using this book, you will lose marks in HSC board examination of Electronics.

Can anyone tell me what is the formula for LOAD REGULATION (LR) of a power supply?

And also what is the criterion for quality of a power supply?
If LR is small then the quality is better or when LR is large then the quality is better…?

WHAT IS IT EXACTLY….???

Mistakes in R.D.Supekar's book

THERE IS A MISTAKE IN R D SUPEKAR BOOK ON PAGE NO. 35. All the teachers have been referring this book to check the HSC Board papers of XII Bifocal electronics since last many years.

We have some photo copies of the papers checked by the teachers of Pune Board and Amravati Board who gave full marks to these mistakes, by referring this book.

His book was published with 10+ editions (from April 2000 to Jan 2012 and still more) and still the mistake is same. He never corrected it – at least till this date (22 Dec. 2015)

Now the problem for the students is, if they write the correct formula of LR as given above, then the teachers who are referring the book, will give it as wrong.

And if they write the value of VNL in denominator, then the basic formula would be wrong, but they will get full marks…!

We have found more such serious mistakes in this book. We are collecting the data and soon we shall publish it.

This is the tragedy of our educational system!

Fuzzy logic is an approach to computing based on “degrees of truth” rather than the usual “true or false” (1 or 0) Boolean logic on which the modern computer is based. The idea of fuzzy logic was first advanced by Dr. Lotfi Zadeh of the University of California at Berkeley in the 1960s.

Abstract:

It is NOT in a way, a control methodology but a different way of processing your data by allowing partial set membership. The conventional crisp set membership or non membership processing involved a number of definite aspects on which you have to carry out the processing, but this methodology can give you the definite results even though the input information is vague, inaccurate, imprecise, noisy (in electronic terms) or even with some missing fractions! This approach to set theory was not applied to control systems until the 1970’s due to insufficient small-computer capability at that time. A challenge to implement the characteristic human psychology in a machine. A presentation not as a control methodology. But a novel idea of processing data by allowing partial set membership rather than crisp set membership or even non-membership…

EXCEL-LENT Technological Tool for Enhancement of Quality Learning in Network Analysis

The research paper of Vidyasagar Sir (our expert faculty), (EXCEL-LENT Technological Tool for Enhancement of Quality Learning in Network Analysis) published in International Conference on Application of Advanced Technology for Enhancing Quality of Science Education (AATEQSE). The conference was organised by Modern College of Arts, Science & Commerce College in Pune on 26 & 27 February 2015.

Abstract

Present student generation is a “Digital Generation”. Technology and related tools are available to preschoolers immediately and without any struggle. So teachers teaching to this generation needs also to be an expert in using and applying this available technology to the present model of teaching curriculum.

This paper presents an idea of how one can develop teaching & learning aids useful for teachers as well as students of “Analog Electronics & Physics” with the help of readily and most commonly available softwares on PCs. One must use the available technology to its full extent & with its complete functionality. As an example, here we are illustrating the use of EXCEL to learn Network Analysis. This includes verification of Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) and Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL), Maximum Power Transfer Theorem, Thevenin’s and Norton’s Theorems.

Laws of Resistances and Capacitances in Series and Parallel can also be studied and easily verified using this tool. Conversion of T to π and π to T network of resistances can also be carried out very comfortably, efficiently and conveniently with the help of this tool.

The extensive use of various functions available in various categories in EXCEL is made to obtain these results. A simple menu driven interface has been designed using hyperlinks. This was demonstrated to teachers and students studying Electronics and Physics at +2 levels & above studying in Science stream.

This has been proved to be an excellent teaching aid for innovative class room teaching. This idea can be used as a learning material for open source learning and distance learning. This tool also can be used to generate a bank of variety of questions and their model answers related to the topic of Network analysis. This is the sequel of my earlier paper titled “EXCEL DIGI LAB” published in IEEE March, 2012 issue.
